Buzzard Droppings July 2009

(Continued from page 2)

the club has 66 members.

Treasurer – Rick Hanners reported that the club financially is in good shape.  The Buzzards have $7,592.77 in the bank.

Safety Officer – Vince reminded everyone the importance of staying clear of an airplane’s spinning prop.  Just remember to be careful.

Field Manager – Jay Bell mentioned that the field is in good condition.

Web Master – Ron Swift commented there was nothing new to publish.

Old Business

The use of 27 MHz:  President Chet Blake wanted to bring the issue of using 27 MHz radios to closure.  A motion was made to cancel the motion made to remove 27MHz as an acceptable radio frequency as this is an AMA sanctioned frequency.  The motion was made, seconded, voted on and passed.

New Business

There were several new items for members to consider.  The first had to do with placing a centerline stripe down the middle of the runway, similar to the one we had last year.  Some discussion ensued as to the pros and cons for using, or not using, a centerline stripe.  A motion was made to stripe the field.  The motion was seconded, voted on, and passed.

The second item of interest was the prospect of adding a 12’ X 6’ lean-to structure in the vicinity of the frequency board.  VP Ron Rueter was going to draw up some plans and bring them to the July meeting.

Jay Bell mentioned a Big Bird event in Bellingham will take place next weekend, June 6 and 7th.  Anyone interested is welcome to attend the event.

Later on in the meeting, Kim Volz made a motion to extend the annual builder’s contest to 12 months.  The current length was from the

October meeting until our May meeting.  The motion was seconded, voted on, and passed.  So, now everyone should be able to build something in the time span of June to the following May.  Either that, or we now have more time to procrastinate.  This is an effort to see more entries make it to the finish line.  This year there were 6 of 14 entries that actually made it to the contest judging meeting.

Speaking of the 2009 Builder’s Contest, here are the results:

ARF category

1. Dick Ovrid with his custom recovered SIG Rascal

2. Brian Reightley with his twin electric P-38

3. Ron Swift with his 96” Beech Musketeer

1. Chet Blake with his Golden Era 60 was also the  winner of the “Pilot’s Choice” award

2. Ross Jacobson with his Fokker Eindecker
