Buzzard Droppings January 2008

(President’s Message continued from page 1)

A few months ago I took a look at what I have acquired already and came to grips with the fact that I already have everything I want and need. ARF's, kits, engines, radios, servos, fuel tanks, and everything else that it takes to put together many fine airplanes. Which brings me to the decision point of What’s Next. What’s Next is a concept of once you solo, what is the next airplane to fly while still keeping everything safe for yourself and the other people around you. I took a serious look at what I have built, and what is ready to fly.  I decided to fly these airplanes until maybe hanger rash has taken it's toll. An example is my Taylor Craft which I flew for a year,  to the point where I needed to strip the Monokote off and re-glue every part of the airplane.

As I look back at  2007 and (even though I did not get too much time on the stick) I think the most memorable time was at the breakfast we had last summer. The morning was very foggy, but the coffee was hot... with scrambled eggs, lots of bacon, and plenty of pancakes. My wife helped me prepare the food and took one picture where  every guy there, was eating their breakfast, while leaning against our 1st. safety fence, facing in one direction. To get that many guys out at one time was very rewarding to me. That has always been my goal to try and get you guys out of your normal weekend chores and get you guys together. If you were there, thanks for coming out!

One of the things that is going on for 2008 is obtaining a cargo container to keep our lawn mower and other tools better secured.

Also, we are planning on having just two open houses, two fun fly's and (my favorite), two combat events this year.

I am in need of some ideas for our February, March and April Programs part of our monthly meetings.  Show & Tell is another part of our meeting where you can show off your projects and neat stuff you’ve discovered. It can be anything. What area of modeling are you needing help with. Is it an ARF or kit building procedure, set up procedures, or flying skills? We have within this club way over one hundred years of experience. So let me know what you want for a Program and I will set it up. Remember

guys this is your club, don't let just one person be in charge.

January 8th will be our next meeting. We will talk more about the proposed cargo container, and for our Program we will take a different direction. Jimbo and I will show you a recreation hobby that will, hopefully, change your view on how you look at our mountains, rivers and our streams in this state and other states as well.

Since my first surgery and second surgery I have needed a lot of time for my recovery. So I spent a lot of time in front of my TV, watching the Outdoor Channel. Sitting in my chair, I learned to hunt every big game animal on 5 continents. But there was one show on the Outdoor Channel, which I recorded almost one hundred episodes. This show somewhat haunts me and has sucked me in, to where my wife and I will take a two week vacation this summer to participate in this recreational hobby. I have bought some of the items and have borrowed many more items, from friends, to present to you this recreational hobby. There are a lot of people and friends that will say this hobby is dead. I hope to change your view on this subject. We call these people scoffers, in a friendly way, my wife was a scoffer until she participated in it with me. Then my niece and two nephews came over to stay for a week and I got them sucked into it as well. This is the type of recreational hobby that once you are sucked in there is almost no help for you. Well, don't let me scare you, there is nothing mystical about it. Anyone can participate in and it might be that you can do this hobby in your backyard. That's happening all over this state and elsewhere. It takes a little hard work, and if you persevere long enough the rewards are incredible. I hope I have your interest up and you will come to our next meeting on January 8th at Alfy's Pizza. You won't go away disappointed, I promise.

Anyways I hope

you got that

airplane, engine,

radio, and/or other

flying stuff that you

wanted for Christ-

mas, and I hope

you have a safe

and sane New

Year.

See you at the meeting. Fred
