Buzzard Droppings April 2008

(President’s Message Continued from page 1)

talked about raising our contest fee from $5 to $10.

Man, oh man, to some of our members it was like taking there first born away from them.

The Member Participation Plan has been in the discussion stage by many of our members for years. So, I told these members I would put it in writing and let you members look at it this coming April’s meeting.

The idea for raising the contest fee to $10 per event would allow us to give out bigger prizes, without costing the club any money to have the contest. One idea was what if one of our members couldn’t come up with the $5, how is he going to afford $10.  Well, I believe if one of our members couldn’t afford $5, why doesn’t he work the $5 or $10 fee off by painting tables or doing other work at the field.  I know our field manager could come up with some projects he could to do. I think all of our members have heard this phrase, “The difference between men and boys is the price

of their toys”.

If I couldn’t afford to pay $5 for any of our contests, maybe I should wait till I could afford to.  I believe family always comes first, then flying second.

This week I paid $4.10 a gallon for diesel fuel. Next year maybe $5.00, I don’t know. Our hobby does take a lot of money and time. Anyways, guys I will have this plan drawn up introduce it to you at our next meeting. Then we will vote on it at the May meeting, or if it takes till the June meeting to get the word out, then we will vote on it then.

Spring is upon us, time to cycle those batteries and get out there and take advantage of this good winter/spring weather. Hope to see you at our next meeting, April 1st at Alfy’s Pizza. Remember our May meeting will be out at the field.

and resulting crashes. Sometimes, the student just isn’t ready to proceed quite that far. The idea of R/C Modeling is to “enjoy” what you do, not try to have the biggest and boldest.

A short discussion followed about advanced training,  if the student desires it and the role of the instructor at that point. Nothing concrete was decided or voted on.

The program was a video “Cub Nuts” that was presented by Dick Ovrid and Gary Owens. Dick also brought his latest Cub project for covering explanation and presentation.

Our next meeting will be here at Alfy’s on April 1st. This will be the last meeting inside until October 7th.  The May 6th meeting will be at the Club Field and the program is the judging for the Builder’s Contest winners.

At the April 1st meeting we will discuss a 3 person committee to designate where the annual charity auction proceeds and/or donations will go.

Fred introduced the current club officers:

Vice President – Brian Illston reported that he needs help with at least one of the Open Houses. Please see Brian if you can help.

Brian also said that with the Board meeting, we’d like to see the prizes increased to $40, $30 & $20 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively and raise the entry fee to $10. Discussion followed about including lunch or keeping a reduced entry fee and not including lunch. Nothing was resolved at this meeting. We’ll discuss and finalize these ideas at our April 1st meeting.

A membership cap was discussed, but no
