Buzzard Droppings September 2007

(Continued from page 2)

Safety Officer –Vince reported a great, safe Fun Fly. Keep up the good work, keep alert and don’t become complacent with Safety. Always do a preflight check!

Special Committee Reports

Alternate Field Location Committee Fred reported that Harley’s field is no longer a consideration. Harley has fixed up the loafing shed and is going to board horses on that property. Harley was also concerned about his neighbor causing problems with the county if we rented there. Fred said he has some other options he wants to check out as soon as his doctor signs him off to drive again (kind of like getting signed off at the field ?!?!?).

Pilot training – Rick reported that 4 members are in training.

Sound Management – No new readings or report.

Field Improvements  -  Ron Rueter thanked everyone who has taken a date for cutting the grass. There’s 2 or 3 dates left. See Ron or email him to take a date.

Ron reported that Fred offered a wood stand for the rain barrel so it can be used as needed.

Joe Wallis said he put some weed chemicals in the shed. Pay close attention to the temperature at which they’re applied and definitely do NOT mix them. Please read the labels. If you’re not sure, DON’T use them.

Old Business

Last meeting we talked about advanced training (stunts, IMACC type flying, maneuvers, etc). Ron Swift said he’d check into possible instructor(s) that might be interested and a format that could be followed.

New Business

Fred brought the AMA 5 year Gold Leader patches. Anyone who has not received one is invited to pick one up. One of the many things that help us continue being a Gold Leader Club is the continued participation in a charity program such as our yearly Auction like the one we’ll be concluding tonight.

Dave Bell took the “stand” for a moment and told the story of his grandson, Shaun Hancoop and how this auction started. Last year he built a Pete n Poke to auction off, with all the proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital for the immense skills, treatment, help and hospitality they offered not only Shaun, but the family as they literally lived there for 9 months. He’s happy and proud to announce that Shaun is a happy, healthy 4 year old today and you’d never know he went through such a terrible, heart wrenching ordeal. Children’s made all the difference in the world. With the offering of a simple airplane, there were so many other items and donations in a 2 month period that the Club raised $1300 to present to the Children’s Hospital Guild last year. This was outstanding and the generosity of the Buzzards touched him and his family deeply. Thanks to ALL !
