Buzzard Droppings November 2007

Text Box: All seems to be going well at the field, no serious injuries that I have heard about. Everyone is behaving.
Wear shoes while working on your plane. Might sound funny, but on a couple of occasions I have had the trusty Exacto knife roll off the table and attempt to impale my foot. One time it stuck into the floor between my big toe and next one. Another time it stuck into the top of a pair of slippers I was wearing. So be careful. sharp objects must be following the Murphy thing again, the point always seems to go where it can do the most damage.
I mentioned this at the last meeting and several of the members present had similar experiences. I was looking through a Dave Gee catalog and someone suggested you can get pencil and pen grip pads that are sold in drug stores to help people with arthritic hands to hold onto the pencils and pens. They will also prevent an Exacto knife from rolling off the table.
I took this paragraph from a column in the April 2007 Dave Gee catalog. I have no idea what he is talking about, but the concept sounds good. “Keep your work area neat and orderly. In addition to being able to find what you are looking for when you need it, you lessen the chance of tripping over something and injuring yourself (or worse, damaging the airplane you just finished). Pick up after yourself and return tools where they go after each time you use them. You will have a happier time in the shop and will work more efficiently in the long run.”
UNTIL NEXT TIME, BE SAFE BE COURTEOUS
