Buzzard Droppings November 2007

(Continued from page 3)

Club has tackled the problem of low fieldwork participation.

Advanced Pilot Training – Ron Swift reported that a few months ago, the Club voted to support investigation into advanced training. Ron mentioned that the training being envisioned would be optional and cover many aspects of RC flying.  Some he mentioned were trimming and mixing, pattern maneuvers, 3D, Glider tow, etc. He is checking into training by an outside pilot.  One example would be having an instructor show up at our field with a plane ready to go that we could fly with him/her on a buddy box setup. Ron in the past, worked with a Robin Leeman (from Long Island) who was training pilots for glider towing and other types of flying. He’ll continue to talk with individuals about this. He just wants everyone to understand that it’s NOT a mandatory training. Everyone should feel comfortable with their skillset, and totally up to the individual to decide if he wants to go further. Fred briefly talked about his president’s input in the last newsletter explaining his views.

A motion was made, seconded and approved for Ron to continue searching for someone to be a trainer. We’re into the nasty weather now, so this is a good time for researching the possibilities.

Ron said that he’s had various calls for help from some club members who needed a little help. He explained that as we get older, things change, reaction times, vision, dumb thumbs, etc.. Don’t’ be afraid to ask for help. It’s amazing what we can easily forget when we get caught up in just “things”

Joe Wallis asked about having some type of “Clinic” for issues that are noticed like that and have it as an Open House/Swap meet type event.

A Motion that the Club By-Laws be amended to make the Newsletter/Web site editor’s yearly dues be waived. This will remain a non-board position. Currently the position holds a 50% discount off of the yearly dues. Ron Swift explained that in order to do this, the motion has to be made, seconded and tabled until all members are given written notice at least one month prior to the vote. [The notice was published in the October Newsletter and this one as well.] The 30 day minimum notice will be completed in time for the November meeting and will be voted upon then.

New Business

Fred reported that he has to get in touch with a Cub Scout Den Mother in Duvall. She has asked

about the Club hosting a Scout day next spring.

Fred talked about the 5 year old that was at the last Combat event. He was totally into it and extremely upset when he had to leave. Fred mentioned this to explain that there are kids that are influenced when they visit and this helps to keep the Model Aviation Sport alive.

Crash Videos – As we watched the videos, it was obvious that there were no or low safety precautions. Many of the crashes occurred right in front of by-standers. It was good to hear what many members pointed out!
