Buzzard Droppings March 2007

(President’s Message continued from page 1

can encourage increased membership to support two flying fields. We all know that several local clubs folded and there are a lot of great RC Flyers out there.  This will help to keep our club dues at the current rate and begin development of a second field. If you would like a voice in these actions, please attend our next meeting.  We could use some volunteers for the Model Expo to greet our visitors, Hand out some info about the club and answer questions.

The newsletter has the purpose of the club on the front page, but most read past this.  It says the Barnyard Buzzards Model Airplane Club is about,”Promoting the building and operation of radio controlled models, and the public acceptance and good will towards the sport/hobby. Our main goal is to have fun and enjoy the challenge of safely flying radio control models.”  Building, Flying and having safe fun is what we’re all about.  Oh yes, we give back to the community and always have, too!

That brings up another important subject—the second flying field.

(February Meeting Minutes continued from page 1)

He has formally built giant kites.

The program for the evening was a short discussion on a future field and some great show and tell by Fred.

Fred said that his computer was down so if anyone wants to pass along ideas, call his cell phone (425) 891-3145. You might get his voice mail, but he’ll get back to you.

Vice President – Joe Wallis was not in attendance, but Fred relayed that there will be an Open House the 1st Sat. of every month, June thru Sept. There will be 2 Fun Flys and 2 Combat events, dates to be decided at the March meeting.

Secretary - Chet Blake reported that as of this meeting we had 42 renewals so far out of the 64 members from 2006.

Also a reminder that you MUST have a current 2007 AMA card to be a member or fly at the field. All memberships have to be paid by the end of business at the March meeting. Anyone wishing to rejoin after that time will have to pay the $100 initiation fee. That’s the rules, that’s the by-laws !

The current membership dues remain the same, $60 for adult, $30 for Jr. and $15 for student membership.

The Charter, Club AMA dues and landlord insurance will be mailed in March. The Charter and Insurance is $90.00.

Treasurer – Rick Hanners was absent.  But taking the numbers from last month’s financial report, everything looked good and dues were coming in, so we assume we’re still good.

Safety Officer – Vince Bell said “It’s that time of year when milder days brings on the dreams and visions of

flying. Make sure you check the batteries, linkages, motor mountings, etc..  Let’s have another safe year!“

Ron Swift commended Vince on great safety articles and related info. NICE job, Vince !

Special Committee Reports

Alternate Field Location Committee – Fred talked to Mr. Mike Terry who farms 40 acres in Duvall and it might be promising. Fred said that Mike was interested in knowing about the club and the possibility of renting a few acres for the alternate field. Mike is excited to see what the Club is all about.

The committee is going to check into the feasibility of buying a few acres if available with flying rights over the surrounding area.

As reported before………Dale Reiner  (Landlord) said to start another field and stay at the current one as long as possible. Dale has no idea of when a sale might occur, but he’s buying the property in front of the field to make the sale more attractive.

Fred and the committee met with Harley again on Feb. 2nd.  Ron Swift went thru the Power Point presentation. Harley didn’t give the nod, but he seemed somewhat encouraged. The committee advised Harley that the Club was still looking at the possibility of other sites.

Previously, a membership vote allowed the committee to talk to potential land lords and also it allocated $2000 for the development of a new field.

Fred has been talking to Mike Terry and his in-laws have 100’s of acres in the Duvall valley. Some of the land lays just west of the Woodinville-Duvall bridge. Mike seemed very excited and upbeat about the whole idea. Fred might try to get him to the field someday and let him

Vince Bell, Ron Reuter, Chet Blake an I met with a farmer in Duvall about the possibility of flying on a portion of some 100 acres.  I took the owner on a visit of our current flying field so he could see what we’ve done there and how we operate.

Anyway, I got excited when I visited the Duvall location.  There are no animals, it is wide, open and flat.  It is currently used for hay.  We will have more information for you at our upcoming club meeting.  We are planning to have a Fly-in at this field to get the experience of flying there.  More details about this will be shared at the meeting as well.

We want as many of our club members to participate in this Fly-in.  Our objective is to get the experience of flying, do sound measurements from various areas, and have some fun.  Hopefully Duvall is ready to accept us into the community.

So, it is important to be at the club meeting so your voice can be heard as we make plans for our second flying field and make plans to get the ball rolling.

See you at the flying field and club meeting.

Fred
