Buzzard Droppings September 2006

Text Box: First, I would like to thank Ron and Scott for being the contest directors for the Fun Fly and Combat meet. I was not able to come out for the Combat meet, but I was there for the Fun Fly. Ron did an excellent job of keeping everything safe and it looked to me like everyone was having fun. All the tasks could be flown by anyone in a safe manner. I understand Combat was equally safe with nothing that was not foreseen. Midair collisions, that’s just part of the game.
For those that make up your own battery packs: Shorting the negative and positive leads on a Nicad or NiMh can cause some anxious moments and maybe burned spots hopefully not on one’s person. Dealing with lithium batteries can be much, much worse. They can and will burst into flames big time and burn your house down. Not that Nicad or NiMh batteries won’t cause problems, they are just a little less likely to burn your house down.
If you insist on making your own battery packs; work with one wire at a time insulate the end of the wire you are not going to be working with, solder the other end to the termination (Battery terminal or connector) and insulate it. Remember one connection and insulate, never have any un-insulated wires flopping around that are connected to a battery.

UNTIL NEXT TIME, BE SAFE BE COURTEOUS
Vince Bell, Safety Officer

Fred, Dave Bell and I went down to one of Children's Hospitals administrative offices and dropped off the donation check in the amount of $1300!  The people we met there were pleasantly surprised by the generous donation that we gave them, and we will be getting a letter of thanks in the not to distant future.  For everyone who kicked in some money to make this all happen:  THANK YOU!  You are a great group of guys and it’s nice to know there is a generous streak that runs through the group.  So hats off to all of you.
