Buzzard Droppings September 2006

(Continued from page 2)

Field Improvement  - Joe was not able to attend the meeting, but all looks well.

There is a can with grass seed in the shed. In case of “plane divots” or mole abuse, sprinkle some grass seed on the area in need.

Old Business—None reported

New Business

We have some options for the winter months meetings such as the Hitching Post, Alfy’s, Monroe Library, and the PUD building. We have to make a decision soon.

Fred had Ron Rueter take the frequency scanner home and work on it. (Ron is now Officially Knighted and dubbed “The Radio Guy”). He found some issues like the antenna had a bad connection, programmed it for our channels and worked on the sensitivity, It appears to be working fine. Thanks “Sir Ron”!

Fred mentioned that the Fun Fly that Ron hosted was GREAT! Special thanks to Ron Swift, Jim Reynolds, and Doug Hoff for their efforts! WELL DONE! The purpose of the event is, of course, to HAVE FUN, but it also sharpens skills, brings out areas that you might want to improve on, and builds camaraderie and fellowship with our members and guests.

There’s another Fly-In at Harley’s field Aug. 12th. Bring your own table. Everyone available will gather around 10:00 AM to discuss safety items, call out frequencies in use and HAVE FUN !

The NE Cherry Valley Rd is open to the exact spot where you turn left on a gravel road between 2 homes, then the first gate on the right near a cattle loafing shed is where the entrance is. There will be a “Pot Luck” BBQ after the flying fun so bring something to share.

A discussion about the Club maintaining 2 fields ensued. After some discussion about being open to other possible sites, a motion was made, seconded and passed that there be a committee formed to pursue the options, and investigate the financial impact and feasibility. If and when a parcel is found, the committee will investigate rent, terms and conditions. All results will be brought to the membership at the meetings.

Downed planes…… IF you loose or down a plane, please make every effort to locate it and all the pieces possible, ESPECIALLY if it’s in

the area where Dale mows and bales the hay. It’s extremely important NOT to have plane debris in any of the bales that Dale will be feeding livestock.

If you can’t find it, please notify Fred or any of the Officers with a description and location of where it was last seen.

Along with safety, keeping Dale happy with us, is our top priority. We could possibly be here for longer than originally thought, so lets keep doing what Dale has always appreciated about us !

Announcements

Kim Volz reminded everyone that Jets Over Whitbey will be August 25, 26,  & 27.

Program

Scott Curtis brought his Gremlin Combat Plane with streamer attached and did a flying demo, cautioning that you have to keep an ever watchful eye on the plane and not the streamer. The plane handles only slightly different and for the most part, everything is the same.

He then went over some of the initial rules that he will use to govern the event on Aug. 19th. Combat rounds will last 3 minutes with a 2 minute time called out. No wing cutting devices or sticky tape will be allowed.

The Gremlin Combat Plane is still available from RA Cores for $35.00. The web address is www.racores.com.

Scott emphasized that you don’t have to be an expert pilot to participate and enjoy this event.

C’mon out and give it a try ! The grill will be sizzlin’ for lunch. Entrants will receive lunch free as part of the entry fee.

Side Note….. We appreciate the sacrifice that Scott’s wife gave to have him do the presentation for us since it was her Birthday.

Dick Ovrid displayed his 1/3 scale Space Walker. This unit was extremely detailed and a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. It is powered by a Quadra 42 gas engine and weighs in around 25 lbs.

The fabric covering was Nitrate Dope, painted over and finished with pin striping. Super Nice Job !

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
