Buzzard Droppings November 2006

Text Box: All seems to be going well at the field, no serious injuries that I have heard about. Everyone is behaving. We do need to watch our pattern to the east. I see a lot of patterns that are getting out over the trestle and possibly near the house. Remember, keep your model flying north of the arrow and west of the trestle.
This is nearly the same way I started off last month’s Safety Corner, I thought it may need repeating as I still see people making long finals from the far side of the trestle, which is OK, as long as the plane is well to the north of the arrow. Next work party we need to cut the black berries from in front off the big arrow and give the arrow a new coat of paint so it will be easier to see.
Be careful when flying in the fog, fog is dynamic thing, it will come and go. Last Saturday many of the hardy guys were at the field waiting for the fog to lift. When we got what appeared to be a good enough ceiling, some brave soul launched his electric plane. The plane actually went out of sight from were I was standing, when I asked the pilot if he had a visual on the plane, I was assured he had it in sight all the time. The plane was a one of the slow flyer types that would turn on a dime and give back change. Needless to say, a faster plane may have disappeared never to be see again. Sort of like shooting an arrow straight up and hoping it will not hit you on the way down. Murphy’s law says it will hit the spot where it will cause the most damage. Be safe, not sorry.
