Buzzard Droppings November 2006

(Continued from page 2)

Strategy” and went through the committee’s presentation. This will be included in the newsletter. [page 6]

As to this date, the Committee and Board has recommended that we  keep the yearly dues at $60 for current members and $100 for new members keep investigating a possible second location, and keep the present field as long as possible. The Club has done a great job in upgrading and maintaining our current field and everyone should be proud of the achievements made. Dale has always had good comments about The Buzzards because of this.

Dale has no idea of when a sale might happen, but he wants us to be prepared.

Pilot Training – Rick reported that 2 members are in training.

Sound Management – No new readings or report.

Field Improvement  - Joe stated that since we received some wet weather, grass seed can be laid down on the field. It takes about 6 weeks to germinate. There is seed in the shed.

Old Business

Brian Illston didn’t like the idea of having to show the kits in order to enter the Builder’s Competition. It was explained that it had always been that way since the conception of the builder’s contest with last year being the exception. It was voted on and approved by the membership to return to that practice.

Jim Reynolds felt there wasn’t a lot of participation at the field events or swap meets. He suggested better advanced organization, more publicized and notices sent to other clubs.

Scott Curtis brought receipts from the Combat event. $35.00 was added to our treasury.

A motion was made, seconded and passed to leave approximately 3’ strip ‘un-mowed’ in front of the safety fence. As this grows it will be a safe barrier to keep planes from hitting the fence. This has been marked out with paint. Please keep this in mind while mowing.

New Business

Kits are still available from the Art Grabow estate that were donated to the Club by his Widow, Peggy.

It looked like a few left after the meeting (including mine!) The kits are offered at a

“reasonable offer” type purchase.

Ron and Fred went over the “Vision Plan” of the alternate field and fielded questions and concerns.

Bob Martin said we should increase dues to be able to manage another field. Items such as dirt fill, rock, sand, seed, top soil, fencing  and excavation type equipment will be needed. An increase in 2007 would help offset costs. If nothing is done now, the expense and time of the committee was wasted.

Fred explained that the committee had no expense to the Club and the insight they brought to the meeting was purely “recommendations and/or possibilities”.

If the nature of the new field justifies increased dues, it will be brought to the membership. Ron also brought up that there has already been generous “pledges of donations” to lower the costs to the membership.

It was motioned, 2nd and passed that there be no increase in dues for the 2007 season.

Show and Tell

Craig Crummer brought his 1/3 scale Bryon Pitts Special Bipe  and pictures of the ’06 Reno Air Races.

The model is a beauty! Craig hasn’t flown it yet.

He has a likeness of his wife piloting the craft made by Pilots by Dianne..

It’s power plant is a Sacs 3.2.

The craft boasts a 72” wing span. The foam construction is covered with light fiberglass, coated with epoxy and very tediously skreeted out to bring the model in just under 19 lbs.

Nice job Craig !

Meeting adjourned at 7:34 p.m.
