Special Committee Reports

Alternate Field Location Committee Fred had previously talked to Harley (the landowner at Cherry Valley) and asked him to come to the field and observe the operations, members and noise levels that the hobby presents. Fred hasn’t had the opportunity lately to ask Harley any more about it.

Anyone with ideas or places to investigate are welcome to call or email Fred or any of the board members.

Pilot training - Rick Hanners reported that 3 members still need check out flights and 1 member needs training. Ron is looking into an “intermediate” piloting class.

Sound Management – No new readings have been recorded.

Field Improvements – Joe Wallis reported nothing is scheduled for the winter months. Work day is coming up, reported by Brain as Saturday, March 22.

New Business

Fred reported that the shed was broken into, and discovered on a Saturday morning. Nothing appeared to be taken, everything is still there except Fred’s Airplane Crossing sign ! Fred will work on the hasps and issues with securing the tractor keys.

Announcements

Charlie Higgins announced that the BEAMS Club will once again be hosting a Day In the Hangar on Sat. March 25th. Charlie said that due to the increased orders at Boeing, this might be the last one since they’re really filling up the hangars. He thought that it might be a $5 ticket to observe.

Someone asked about the possibility of Kevin Miller coming to the field again and demo his excellent IMAC flying. Doug Hoff said he might also know someone and would try to contact him.

Jim Wallis asked if the field was Helicopter capable and wanted to know about an instructor. We currently don’t advertise helicopter training, but it was mentioned that

the Cascade Heli Club is dedicated to Heli only. Their web address is www.cascademodelheli.org  You get their forums, show schedules and more.

Fred said that anyone needing lead sheet to contact him, he has quite a bit from a construction job. AS ALWAYS, be sure to wash up after handling any lead product to protect yourself and those dear to you.

Ron announced that for $49 the Buzzards logo can be embroidered on your own item. $80 for a jacket purchased thru him or Sandy.

It is a 80,000 stitch for $49 on your own jacket or shirt. $10 for Tee shirts (transfer type print), front and back. $21 will get you a sweatshirt with the BBMAC logo on the back.

Program

The meeting program featured Dick Ovrid, who shared many of his building tricks and devices used to center hinges, sand high spots, make a straight and true leading edges and more.

Dick has many years of experience and is more than happy to share techniques and tricks.

Dick also brought a beautifully done model still in the “bones” that he has built. (Chet  thinks it went home with someone else at the end of the night)

Dick talked about not trusting blue print plans to be right on. He’s had many experiences with plans that actually ended up short either by cord or span or just not straight. READ the instructions, MEASURE the pieces and use the plans as a lay up guide but don’t expect them to be straight and prefect, unless they are not produced using a wet reproduction process like blue prints do.

Dick said his absolutely necessary tools are his carpenter square, straight edge(s) and triangle(s). Take the time to sand your work, it will show (or hopefully NOT show) in the end, and a beautiful finished aircraft will be your treasure.

Dick made a great presentation, loaded with facts and tricks.

Thanks Dick ! GREAT Job !

Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,  Chet Blake, BBMAC Secretary
