Buzzard Droppings July 2006

Text Box: Last meeting I ask if anyone had any dumb-thing stories they would like to share. I guess from the response that no one has done anything that they would consider dumb. Most dumb things we do aren’t really a safety concern in the respect that they will cause someone to be injured. In this category here are examples of a few dumb things:
Leaving an essential part or piece of equipment home.
Bringing the wrong transmitter for the airplane that you brought.
Forgetting fuel. This is one I have done a couple times; I’ll bring glow fuel but not gasoline.
Forgetting to fill the fuel tank and running out of fuel a few minutes into the flight. This is usually more of an annoyance than anything else however if it happens in the wrong place it can be a potential hazard, if not to personnel to the airplane.
The really dumb-things and most dangerous are usually from lack of attention to details. In the case of new pilots just simply not knowing or having never been told.
Failure to know the condition of the batteries in your equipment. This is one of the biggies. Just because a battery pack is new does not make it good.
Not checking all of the controls before taking off. I don’t how may times I have been ask to give a new plane its maiden flight and found some of the controls reversed.
With the multi plane computerized radios it is really easy to have the wrong plane set,

At the end of the flight, he commented that it’s easy to glue !!

Fred asked for suggestions for programs.

Chet asked if some of the members running the upcoming events could do a demo of their event. This might encourage more attendance at the events. We need the membership to know that the events are designed to have FUN. You

don’t have to be an expert flyer to be involved and have fun.

DON’T FORGET……… THE JULY MEETING WILL BE HELD ON TUES. the 11th AT THE FIELD

I hope you enjoyed a Safe and Happy Independence Day. Remember those who allow us to enjoy the freedoms we have!

See ya Flyin!

Meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.

Text Box: Take my word on this one.
Not extending the antenna can cause some bad things to happen.
There are millions more you guys fill in the blank _______________.

The following is from Rick Hanners,

If you have been reading the model magazines at all, you know that electric powered flight is one of the fastest growing segments of our hobby. One of the biggest factors driving this growth is the use of Lithium Polymer battery packs. The difference in weight and capacity vs. the older nickel
based electric flight packs has enabled electric powered aircraft to come very close to the performance and duration of traditional glow powered aircraft.
However, with the embracing of this new power source for electric flight comes a much stricter charging regiment that if not followed closely can lead to disastrous results, namely fires. It has been widely reported on Ezone magazine and other forum websites, about the lose of aircraft, cars and even houses (not to mention the batteries) that have resulted from improper charging of Lithium Polymer cells. When a lithium polymer battery pack catches fire, it does not explode but it does violently vent its contents, which are hot and burning. These vented materials usually cause secondary fires which then
