Buzzard Droppings February 2006

(Continued from page 2)

working on a plane, bumped a heat gun off the work table, which turned itself off. The modeler set it back on the work table. Sometime after they left the shop for lunch and the heat gun turned itself on. It was aimed at the plane and it ignited the covering, balsa, frame and the rest of the shop and garage. Message…….. Unplug tools that you are not using!  Always be aware of your actions, storage areas and turn equipment OFF when not using. Chet said that many articles he’s read recommends using an old style light timer to turn off the heat device after 20 minutes or so.

Special Committee Reports

Alternate Field Location Committee – Fred reported that Harley (owner of Cherry Valley property) was going to visit us at the field, but a tragedy kept him away. He might see us sometime in the near future. Fred is looking for volunteers to fill this position since he’s taken the role as President.

Pilot training - Rick Hanners, everyone needing assistance is assigned an instructor and all is going well.

We have 2 new members that still need check off flights

Sound Management - Efforts are on going and so far it seems that we’re staying around 93dB.

Field Improvements – Joe Wallis has volunteered for the Field Improvement position. Welcome Joe !  Fred has set Sat. April 29th as spring clean up day and will co-ordinate with Joe. Fred reported that the idea of a spotter tower came up again. Ron Swift talked about a system he’s seen used successfully using a light weight pole with a marker and walkie-talkies. The person(s) looking for the plane carries the pole/marker and the person(s) seeing where it went down directs them to the correct or closest “last seen” position. Dick Ovrid confirmed that this is the best way to handle this that he’s seen.
