Buzzard Droppings August 2006

(Continued from page 2)

yet another location and would try to get info.

Pilot training - Rick Hanners reported that 2 members need training and is in progress and there was 1 check off.

Sound Management –No new readings or report.

Field Improvements  - Beware of mounds and divots in the field, our mole family is back with what appears to be all the generations ! Brian Illston “visited” the moles with some deterrent and it appears that at least some of the mole family has “gone packing”!

There is a can with grass seed in the shed. In case of “plane divots” or Mole abuse, sprinkle some grass seed on the area in need.

Announcements

Alternate flying field report… After breakfast at the Hitching Post, about 10 of us arrived at Harley’s field. We were totally surprised to see the enthusiasm that Harley showed. We heard the tractor bouncing over the field and low and behold, Harley had the brush hog on the tractor and on front was 5 or 6 tables to help us out. What a guy ! He then proceeded to run the brush hog again to try and break up some clumps. We ended up with a very do-able, impromptu runway that suited the experimental purpose just fine.

Harley, son Austin and daughter Frannie were going back and forth to the house and shop to check out the noise or nuisance levels we might be creating. NO PROBLEM with Harley !

Fred and Kim Volz took a ride around to all the neighbors to interview them about concerns. At this point, no one minded and most thought it was pretty neat, and remarked that they were very impressed that they were even visited and asked. Good Goin’ Fred and Kim ! !

Dick Ovrid had been talking to Dale and he

said that the deal fell thru and we might be there quite a while. We feel that it’s in our best interest to have the second field option “just in case” and will pursue it further for more info from Harley and neighbors.

There’s another flying event at Harley’s field AUG 12th, c’mon out, bring a stable, short take off plane, see and fly the spacious area! There’s a pot luck BBQ at Harleys after the flying fun. Remember, it’s Pot Luck, so bring something to share!

Kim Volz reminded everyone that Jets Over Whitbey will be 8/25-26-27.

Program

The program was a forum on the members and events of the “trial” use of Harley’s.  Everyone had very favorable comments, such as;

Ron Rueter – since he felt he’s a newbie, he was hesitant but loved the openness and found it to be a very nice experience. (also, he did GREAT ). He feels that there’s great potential there and never met a more friendly individual.

Vince – Pleasantly surprised to see Harley bringing the tables, very open flying area and was able to use more radio range. Keep an eye on the power line to the west if we have to make approaches from that side, but shouldn’t be a problem.

Kim – Runway orientation seemed perfect

Ken – Had a good feeling about it even in the rough conditions

Brian R. – lots of openness, Harley’s children were very polite and great to have there

Chet - Great area, just keep an eye on the winter bog and drainage will need to be opened.

Brian I. – Had a great time, perfect that day for the glider. Reminded everyone to watch the eagles nest.

Fred – Thinks the potential is unlimited. Harley might have a concern during hunting season, we have to find out what time frame that is.

Meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
