Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor Operation—Bob Martin

We now own a new 2005 Cub Cadet LT1050 26 HP, automatic Hydrostatic Lawn Tractor with a 50” mulching cutting deck with cruise control and a cup holder.

This notice is to give you a brief idea of the operation of the tractor.

Before starting the tractor,

·      Check the engine oil level.  The oil stick is located under the hood on the right side of the engine block.  Remove the oil cap, wipe the oil stick with a rag and replace the oil cap stick, wait a moment and remove again, check the oil level.  Add oil if necessary. Do not operate the tractor if the level is below the add level.

·      Check the fuel level.  The fuel tank is located in the rear of the tractor. If you stand behind the tractor you can see the gauge for the fuel tank, the fill cap is on the left rear fender. The tank holds 3 gallons of unleaded grade fuel.

To start the tractor:

Be sure the power take of knob is fully pushed in,  The knob is located on the right side just below the ignition switch.

Place your right foot on the brake and fully depress the brake

Pull the chock knob ¼ to halfway out, the chock knob is located on the left side of the steering wheel.

Lift the throttle lever to ¾ full throttle.  The throttle is located on the left of the steering wheel.

Turn the 4 position ignition switch to start (fourth position to the right) and after starting to Normal Operation.

Adjust the choke knob by pushing knob in as engine begins to warm up and push in all the way before moving the tractor.

Release the parking brake by pushing the brake pedal downward and than releasing it upward.

Moving the tractor

The tractor has a Hydrostatic automatic transmission.  The gas pedal has two pedal pads.  When the toe pad is pushed down the tractor will move forward faster (just like a car).  When the heal pad is pushed down the tractor will move in reverse.  When the pedal is released and goes in the neutral position, the tractor will stop.  There is also a brake pedal just to the right of the gas pedal.  This will also stop the tractor and is also a parking brake.  To set the parking brake, push the brake pedal all the way down and push down the parking set lever, which is on the left under the steering wheel. To release the parking brake, push the brake pedal downward and release.

Note: if you get off the seat while the tractor is running without the parking brake set, the engine and the will shut down.  To get off the tractor while it is running, first set the parking brake, and than be sure to release it before starting to move again.

This tractor is equipped with a safety mode to prevent cutting operation when backing up.  The cutting blades will stop when the tractor is backing up. While mowing, if you back up, the PTO under the ignition switch will trip and the blades will stop.  To start mowing again, push the PTO knob in and than back out.

There is little reason to cut while backing up and it is recommended that you do not.

When ready to begin cutting,

Adjustor the throttle lever to full position

Pull the power takeoff knob located under the ignition switch out,

And Lower the cutting deck to the correct and recommended position.

The cutting deck lever is located on the right side of the drivers seat.  It has 6 positions.

·      To cut the flying field, use the number L setting, all the way down, (the lowest setting)

·      To cut the pit area between the fences, use the number 2 setting

·      To cut the parking lot area, use the number 3 setting.

This is to prevent damage to the mowing blades!!!!

Running over stones and rocks in the lower positions will damage the blades.

Grooming our flying field to the best it can be means the blades must be kept sharp and undamaged.

In the number 3 position the blades will not hit the stones in the drive and parking lot area there is no reason to cut the grass any lower in the parking lot area.

Items to remember

1.     Leave the black plastic grass shoot on the mower deck down as this holds in the mulching plug.
