Buzzard Droppings May 2005

(President’s Message continued from page 1)

tractor suffered a flat tire the Bob fixed before it could be used. Bob managed to contact all the board members and propose the purchase of a new tractor that should do a great job for years to com. There were no negative votes from the board, including myself. So, the club has a 50” wide cut mulching mower. I have yet to see it, but I think it even has a cup holder!

Don’t forget about the our Swap Meet coming up the first Saturday, May 7. Last year folks were already leaving with their purchases by noon. I think they stayed around for the burgers and hotdogs. I was told the weather will be fine and any AMA member with a current membership is welcome to fly during the day. The field will be in great condition, now that the new

Brian reported that Randy Turner is running the Fun Fly events and Scott Curtis is accepting the responsibility of running the combat again this year. If interested in running or helping with the Open House events (one coming soon on May 7th) please contact Ron or a club officer.

Secretary: Chet Blake reported 58 members including; 1 Honorary, 3 family and 1 junior.

The mowing list was passed around for this year. We have 31 weeks listed (April 1 thru Oct.28th) and 20 weeks covered. The weeks are listed as weekends (Fridays), please try to have the field mowed by Friday of your week. There is plenty of room for more volunteers. If you are interested and can’t make a meeting, email or call Chet for open weeks.

If the field is mowed regularly, it should take about 1 ½ - 2 hrs. to complete the entire field, pit and parking area. Fred, Vince and Chet mowed the field the weekend of 4/2 and it was dire need of attention. With rainy weather the field can get into bad shape quickly. If you’re there and have some time, please help out. It obviously makes the field more “take-off & landing friendly”, but also is easier on the mowing equipment.

If gas is needed, just get some, keep the

receipt and give to Bob Martin for reimbursement.

The AMA Charter and Land Owner Insurance fees were sent in mid-March. Bob should be seeing a return membership list and insurance documents from AMA headquarters soon.

Chet asked that if you know of anyone not receiving the email notices (and have internet…. DUHHH), please have that member contact him at chetblake@comcast.net for email address verification.

This is the last meeting at the library for the spring. All meetings throughout the summer will be at the field, rain or shine! ALSO…… May 3rd meeting is at the field and the exciting conclusion to the BBMAC Builders Competition. Bob explained further details under announcements.

Treasurer: Bob Martin reported the finances were in descent shape, but we’re about 7 members short of the 2005 budget expectations.

Bob received an AMA mailer about supporting the USA Athletic team going to Germany. No action on this matter.

Safety Officer: Randy Turner was not present. No safety related incidences were reported or known of.

lawnmower is in operation.

See page 7 for details of the new tractor and recommended operating procedures.

I know this seems obvious, but please clean the grass off the mowing deck before storing it in the shed and make sure you lock the shed. Use our older tractor for the parking area. This will help keep the newest one running for years.

Should a plane go down, please report the event to Randy Turner or myself. We are still tracking these events and the circumstances to help in our various programs -  Pilot training, Safety, and field improvements. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

See you at the flying field.

Ron
