Buzzard Droppings March 2005

suggested keeping it light, since smaller models with smaller wheels get caught up in the grass and don't perform as well. Many members felt the same. Ron asked Fred to oversee the situation and make suggestions.

Ray asked about a new aerial picture for the newsletter showing our current configuration, fences and tables. Ron asked Dick Orvid about the new pic.

Ron will contact the AMA about facts and availability of a Spectrum Analyzer.

The March program will be on the use of composites, carbon fiber, etc. in model building.

REMINDER —  DUES ARE DUE by the March Meeting !

Show and Tell

Scott Curtis brought a Gremlin kit and explained the construction and relatively easy build, passed around the instruction booklet, fielded quite a few questions and raised a lot of interest. The kit is available from www.racores.com for approximately $35.

Program

Hap brought some electric R/C trains and showed the differences between different price ranges. He has quite a few types and models. After taking quite a bit of guff (about trains being a heathen hobby), he fielded many questions about electric flight.

The most common question is "How do I know what motor size to use without dropping $100 or more for an inefficient or wrong size?" Hap recommended the magazine RC Flyer as a good source.

He expressed the advantage of using the Lithium batteries and new

Outrunner brushless motors. Many

models are lightened by removing

the firewalls and some frame work,

out the planes, getting ready for those sought after "Nice Flying Days". This year the weather has been relatively good, so many of us are out there regularly.

Keep in mind that the hinges need to be checked out, cycle the batteries, tighten nuts & bolts, and WATCH THAT PROP. Randy told of a story where a friend had a large plane tethered using a rope and screwdriver. The motor revved up, pulled the screwdriver out and proceeded to "chop it's way" up the man's legs, stopping short of making him a “soprano”. Fortunately, a friend police officer stopped to see him and got him aid before he bled to death. Although some stories are at minimum, humorous, please take the message seriously.

Committee Reports

Ron is asking for anyone interested in the Field Location Committee to contact him.

Rick Hanners will head up the pilot training program.

Ron and Rick will continue the Sound Management committee

It was "rumored" that Fred Hanquet was interested in heading up the Field Improvement position. Fred graciously accepted the position.

Old Business

Rock fill at the gate was approved at the Dec.'04 meeting and Dale doesn't have a problem with it. The rock needs to be 5/8 minus (size). Fred and Ron Beba will work out details.

In the March meeting the membership will vote on a proposed change to the by-laws which states "A member of the Executive Board Committee shall audit the Club's Financial reports as prepared by the Treasurer at least once a year and compare to the Bank's Monthly Statements". This was tabled in the January meeting to allow the membership 30 days to review.

New Business

Bob stated that he feels the field needs fertilizer twice a year. This brought discussion from the membership. Ray and others
