Buzzard Droppings January 2005

(President’s Message continued from page 1)

I was asked about foam wings and other model parts and how to make them.  So, to share some of these answers, I’ll bring some of the tools used for foam cutting and explain the process taught to me by master builder, Ray Hoffmaster.  We cut the wings for the Combat Gremlin I flew this year back in 1997(actually made it a bit bigger than the original plans…). Feel free to bring your jigs, tricks, and tools for working with foam to our next meeting.

I was at our flying field December 24 and was amazed at how many club members were braving the fog cover and cooler temperatures. I attempted to take a few photos, but my camera batteries were too weak. A lesson learned… The batteries don’t last as long in the colder weather. Anyway, it’s good to see you guys out there despite the rainy, foggy weather.

I hope Santa Claus found your name on the “Nice” list and brought the R/C goodies that you were hoping for. With so many new ARF kits, radios,  and newer battery technologies emerging nearly daily, it is tough to keep up with. Still, if you’re comparing hobbies and sports that are available and their costs, I guess we

don’t have much to complain about. Still, it takes some kind of “special” individual to take our shiny newest creation and guide it into the air, knowing that this very day might be the day it becomes a rebuilding project. Yes, most will agree it takes a special mindset (or something…).

This upcoming club meeting will be the first meeting with our winning “Coffee Host”, Jim Reynolds bringing the goodies. The winner of the first raffle at our club meeting will be the newest winner, who will help Jim clean up the kitchen area, take the coffee post and supplies home until our next meeting. For that meeting, the newest winner will bring the goodies and a receipt for any supplies and goodies, the cost of which will be refunded by the club.

Have a good rest of the holiday season and a great new year!

See you at the flying field.

Ron
