Text Box: Hey, everyone........For this month’s safety column I think I will use our July 23 FUN FLY.................
Saturday morning started out with Ron setting up the food center. I was at work using my trusty paint cans, making lines on the runway.
This year we had 9 pilots and many of them were inexperienced to Fun Flys.
The pilot meeting went well and events were explained along with our club safety rules. The events I had scheduled were somewhat bizarre to say the least.
We had 2 typical Fun Fly type airplanes, a few general sport type, and a trainer type.
A couple of small incidents happened, but after the grown men stopped crying, all was settled without mishap, with the CD and Judge giving in.
The events went well and I think everyone had a good time.
You should have seen us trying to whistle with a mouth full of crackers. Wow! I think our Judge Jim Reynolds is still pulling cracker crumbs out of his ear.
Have you ever seen a Zagi electric ) at a Fun Fly ?????????????????????? (You could have…)
Well, we had a little of everything.
Our British guest (you know who I mean, Mr. VP) came in third place (with a trainer) and had the best blind taxi time of the day.
Our illustrious President wound up in second place. Because I designed the events and had a chance to practice them for 9 days in a row, I came in first.
The events were pretty easy and I think very fair for novice or expert fliers. Cracker chewing and dice rolling averaged out the field pretty well. No major crashes, however ,Brian had to put his wing back on a couple of times and Dick decided to yard dart his Ugly Stick on the spot landing.
We broke for lunch at 11:30am and headed to the food tent where my wife Dottie had been burning the burgers and setting out the condiments, chips and pop.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the $2.50 lunch (what a buy) and I will take this opportunity to thank my wife (Dottie) for coming in from Camano Island to help us out. Sandy, Ron's wife, is normally there to do the cooking, but she was in New York. So Ron begged and pleaded and made some kind of weird promise to my wife to show up and help out.
The weather was fantastic.
I really hope that we can get more of you Buzzards out to the September 11 Fun Fly. Again, anyone has a chance to win this thing and it is not a difficult type of flying. If you can chew crackers, whistle and fly all at the same time, you'll have fun. (If you plan to try this, make sure you have a beverage handy!) Just ask Chet if he was having a good time (I could tell by the laughing).
I thank the club for the awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. These were gift certificates that Bob Martin had gotten from Tower Hobbies. The winners and prizes were.
1st place $25.00-----------Randy
2nd Place $15.00-----------Ron
3rd Place $10.00-----------Brian
I'll end this little report with a big thank you to our judge Jim Reynolds. He stood out there with his whip and stick to beat everyone into some kind of order. Seriously, THANK YOU, Jim..............

P.S. Why did everyone taxi around the cone right to left except our VP, Brian ? (he went left to right) Oh never mind, it's a British thing.......................
