Buzzard Droppings August 2005

(President’s Message  continued from page 1)

July 23. I hope you’ll plan to join in for the next two events, our Annual Combat Meet on August 13 and the second Fun Fly on September 11 (New Date). Check out the information on pages 4 & 5. Come out to help with the event, even if you don’t plan to participate as an event competitor.

It is not too early to consider taking a more active part in the club as a club officer. According to the club by-laws, a new president will need to be elected this December.  The satisfaction and reward for working with this group of members is really great. We do have a great club and flying facility. If you would be willing to be a club officer or have questions about a particular position please contact me.

Every month, the newsletter includes the

October. The Library has once again given away our regular Tuesday night for a book discussion (of all things)!

Vice President - Brian Richardson announced that July 23rd will be the Fun Fly from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Also, a combat event is scheduled on August 13. A 2nd Fun Fly is scheduled for Sunday, September 11. Check the newsletter and/or our web site for details.

Secretary - Chet Blake reported 62 members including; 1 Honorary, 3 family and 1 junior. We had one returning member yet to be added to our membership.

Congratulations to Ron and his Co-Pilot (Sandy) for the vows recently exchanged. We all wish them well and all the happiness they can withstand!

There are still a few weeks open for the mowing list. Contact Chet if interested in taking a week. He can be reached at (425) 673-9369 or chetblake@comcast.net.

If gas is needed, keep your

receipt and give to Bob Martin for

reimbursement.

Treasurer - Bob Martin reported the finances were in descent shape and we’re good for this time of the year although we are a couple of members short of predicted budget.

Safety Officer – Randy Turner reminded everyone about cycling batteries. He lost 2 planes recently due to battery condition. If a battery is not cycled regularly or old, the charge is often just a surface charge that will indicate a good 5.2 volt or more, but won’t have a deep charge. Meaning it will not deliver its rated current as long as it did. The deep charge is where batteries can work to maximum efficiency. After an expensive lesson, Randy learned that keeping track of discharge/charge cycle times is the best way to go. After accumulating many models, this can often be a problem as we “plug and play” without deep cycling. This applies to our transmitter batteries as well.

purpose of the club, as outlined by the founders of the Barnyard Buzzards. This is Promoting the building and operation of radio controlled models, and the public acceptance and good will towards the sport/hobby. To provide an opportunity for us to do this, I have been in contact with two scout groups who would like to have a program with their scouts this fall.

This is a good way to

promote this exciting

hobby/sport in our area.

If you would like to help

out, let me know when

you’ll be available, so I

can recommend dates to the scouts .

Thanks to Fred for the donation of the new tables and all the work on the field this year.

Time to build a plane for an engine that I fixed up. See you at the flying field!     Ron
