Buzzard Droppings November 2004

(President’s Message continued from page 1)

The local Cub Scout Pack leader has offered the use of a private field in Duvall for hosting a cub fun fly activity, like the ones we’ve had at our field. He mentioned having over 50 scouts and they would provide the food!  Anyway, we tentatively set a date in April 2005 for a get together. If you would like to participate in this community service event, please let me know. This is a great opportunity for the scouts and our club members.

I received email today from one of the club members informing me that the field gate was left unlocked overnight on more than one evening! It is important to protect the field. If you cannot lock the gate for some reason, call me. It is the club’s responsibility to protect our landlord’s property. Preventing misuse of our facility   prevents damage to the landing field and helps protect the club’s assets.

We will open the nominations for club office again this coming meeting, so don’t be shy. If you want to volunteer your time and skills, step up!

Our 2nd Swap Meet had quite a few attendees, but

(October Meeting Minutes continued from page 1)

when you lose a plane in the field that you find and pick up ALL the parts. If parts are missing, please post a note on the frequency board, so other members will be on the lookout for them.

Vice President:

Brian stated that the club’s 2nd fun fly was held and all who entered had a great time.  There were no crashes and no safety issues during the event.  We will be having our 2nd Swap meet this Saturday at the flying field, rain or shine.

Secretary:

Bob Martin reported the total membership at 66, but this was an error.  The club currently has 65 full members, 3 Family and one Junior members.  Bob Martin stated that the AMA membership renewals have been mailed.  He also stated that all club members must have their AMA membership renewed and have a 2005 AMA card on January 1st 2005 in order to continue to fly after that date.

Treasurer:

Doug Hoff stated that the club is in good financial condition.  All the field improvement bills have been paid.  The field improvements were more than budgeted, but with the increase membership and other offsetting reduced expenses, our finances are in good condition.  He recommended that the 2005 dues remain at $60 based on an initial budget plan he is working with for 2005.

Safety Officer:

Randy reminded all present that safety should always be on our minds.  It was brought up that a member at the field taxied his plane along the fence inside the pit area.  THERE IS TO BE NO TAXING OF AIRCRAFT IN THE PIT AREA.  Many other pilots maybe working on their planes in the pits and not paying attention to another pilot who is taxing there.  Please hand carry your running plane to a pit opening to begin your taxi

onto the field from there. Also, stop your plane before it enters the pit area. No taxing in or out of the pits for safety sake!

Committee Reports:

Pilot Training:

Rick Hanners reports that several new members have completed their training and have been checked out.  The Program is working great and all reported having enjoyed the experience.

Sound Management:

Ron thanked Rick for the updated spreadsheet with some new tests that Rick performed. It appears that the G62 on Ron’s Super Lazy Ace has the record at 110 dbA with the engine spinning an APC 24x10 at 7530 rpm. Ron mentioned working on quieting it down!  The club averaged around 90 dbA overall.

Field improvements:

Joe Goffin has sprayed the fence line for weed control and the field will have turf builder and weed killer spread this month. Suggestions for a new port-a-potty and tables were made.

Old Business:

Ron Swift brought up that we have a committee to look into a new location for a flying field.  Gerald Gunnells stated that the old dump in Clearview is being used by several other projects including a shooting range and would not be available for a flying field.

Ron stated that no contact has been made with the owner of the welding shop in Monroe as yet and the plaque showing the location of field has not been done as yet.

Ron has finished the scanner procedures and anyone that would like to learn how to operate it should contact him for training.

New Business:

Orders for club Jackets, hats and shirts are being taken,,, see or contact Doug Hoff or Ron Swift, if you are interested.

(Continued on page 3)

the rain seemed to slow down the swapping and sales. Not as much activity as the last time. We’ll try to plan next year’s events around better weather. Still, we’ve had a great flying season and our activities have been well attended. Good stuff to build on.

We had discussed having a mall show, displaying our models and talking model aviation with the public. If anyone wants to work on getting this idea off the ground for 2005, please contact me. Doing this in the Monroe area makes a lot of sense. Many of us started out in modeling due to a show like this.

With more than 66 members on our roster this year, we have more than doubled in size from when I first contacted the club. I enjoy the camaraderie and good will that you show toward each other during our club meetings and at the flying field. I receive many positive comments from our  visitors and for these I thank you all!  We have a club we can all be proud of. It is the small things that count… mowing when needed, helping another get his plane flyable, lending an attentive ear, suggesting improvements, so many things.

See you at the flying field, Ron
