The meeting of the Executive board of the Barnyard Buzzard Model Airplane Club, Inc., was held on February 3, 2004 at Alfy’s pizza in Monroe

President Ron Swift called the meeting to order. Present were the Ron Swift, (President), Brian Richardson (Vice President), Bob Martin (Secretary), Doug Hoff (Treasurer), Randy Turner and Joe Goffin (Field Development Committee).

Ron reported that he had received email from Karl Schaefer stating that his full scale restoration project, work, family commitments and other projects will prevent him from participating in the club meetings this year. He asked that someone be appointed as the club’s Safety Officer.  Ron raised the concern that the club By-laws state that we need a minimum of five members on the board and a replacement for the Safety Director position will need to be nominated and voted on by the club’s membership at our membership meeting.

Ron presented the proposed agenda for the meeting.

After reviewing the agenda and adding one item, the Executive Committee began addressing the items.

Field Improvement and Spring Cleanup

The main considerations for the Field Development Committee recommendations to the board are:

Prevent flying over the house

Easier maintenance

Improved safety for pilots, members and spectators

Make changes with regard to the AMA flying site guidelines

The Board discussed the planned layout to be presented to the full club membership. A new field layout was designed using the recommendations provided and presented by the field improvement committee at the January club meeting.  All the recommendations were approved with exception of the clubhouse trailer, which was tabled until measurement and layout could be looked into.  In addition, the board decided to recommend the addition of a 2nd safety fence to enclose the pilot stations.  Some of the fight tables will be located between the fences.

Alternate Flying Field – A brief discussion was held about doing an investigation of alternate flying facilities. The Field Development Committee will work on this as part of their charter.

By-Law and Field Rule Copies

Both are up to date. Ron will make copies available by next meeting.

Red Tag Radio Equipment

After some discussion it was agreed that Bob Martin will draft guidelines and review them with the Safety Director.

Membership

It was noted that our membership has increased over the past few years.. Newsletters at the local hobby shop, the club web site, and club events seem to be attracting new members.

The board discussed trying to increase involvement with area youth, continue supporting the Cub Scott fun fly, increase community awareness by participating in an Everett mall show, Monroe 4th of July parade, attend Monroe City council meetings, etc. The board also talked about the increased member involvement in club meetings and activities which could involve other AMA clubs in our events.

Ron mentioned that it is the Vice President’s job to look into communication with the other area clubs, possibly by asking our club members who are already involved in the other area clubs.

Investigation of Frequency interference

It was pointed out that reports for suspected  interference problems should go to the Safety Director, where they can be compiled. While there may have been discussions in the past (as reported by Bob) no reports have been received.

Ron Swift stated that the AMA scanner had  been returned.  He stated that we could request it again. The AMA would send it when available.  Bob Martin asked what the cost of one like the AMA’s would cost. Ron stated $450. Bob made a motion that we present to the
