Safety Director - Newly elected Randy Turner reminded all present that as they prepare to start flying this year they all should check their planes for winter (or other) damage. They should cycle the battery, check for proper operation of the servos and all the control surfaces. He also stated that anytime you take a plane that you have not flown for awhile out, you should also check the range of the radio equipment.
Committee Reports:
Builders’ Competition: Bob Martin reported 18 entries in the builders competition. The judging is next month at the March club meeting. All finished planes should be brought to the Monroe library for judging. The builders should not fasten the wing on the plane, as the judges will need to see the inside of the fuselage. Un-finished planes should also be brought to the meeting.
Pilot Training Program: Rick Hanners reported he had assigned the last new member to an instructor.
Old Business:
Frequency Investigation: Bob Martin opened the discussion regarding the purchase of a scanner like the one the AMA sent to the club, an Icon IC-R 7000. He stated that Ron Swift estimates the cost of the scanner at $450. Bob reviewed the reasons for the need to scan for intermittent signals at the field and suggested that the club put the purchase of the scanner on the goals for 2004 and raise the money with donations. A discussion was opened and several had reasons to purchase and not to purchase. A motion was made to purchase the scanner with current club funds, seconded and was voted down. Bob Martin then made a second motion to purchase a club scanner with donations. The motion was seconded and passed. The Treasurer reported after the meeting that $115 was donated that night.
Field Improvements: Joe Goffin presented the field improvements. Bob assisted by showing a sketch of the proposed field improvements as approved by the board of directors during their meeting..
Items included: moving the present safety fence to angle the runway away from the house, adding a 2nd safety fence with new posts and railings, with pilot stations established in-between the two safety fences, moving the shed to allow a mower to go completely around it, addition / enclosure of the shed or replacement of the shed, potential club house, both American and Canadian Flags to fly at events, moving the transmitter board.
