lend a hand. We will have a simulator there and some club information to share with the attendees.

The scanner had to be returned to AMA. We will scan the frequencies at the field again as the weather improves.

Remember to renew your club membership by early April so that Bob can send in an accurate member’s list to AMA.

I have received the AMA Gold Leader paperwork. I will fill in the required updates, but it looks good for the club to be awarded Gold status for a third year in a row. Nice work guys!

See you at the flying field. Ron

IRS and the Barnyard Buzzards Model Airplane Club, Inc. has now been approved as exempt from Federal Income tax under Internal Revenue Code Section  501(a) (a not-for-profit corporation).

He reported 55 current members.  He also stated that members could now start paying their 2004 membership dues and that everyone will need to fill out a new member application and sign the ‘hold harmless agreement’.  He also stated that anyone that did not have their 2004 AMA card in hand would not be able to fly. He also had the new 2004 Barnyard Buzzard stickers to place on the AMA card.

Dianne Martin was there and she was laminating AMA cards for a donation of $1.

Bob Martin also reported that he and Ron Swift did go to the field on a sunny Saturday morning and performed scanning with the scanner that they had received from the AMA.  They did a background scan without any transmitters on and saw no transmissions.  Then transmitters were turned on and they observed the transmissions and verified the correct frequencies.  The scanner was then left on for sometime while pilots were flying.  During the afternoon a stray frequency was discovered on channel 41.  No pilots at the field were on that frequency.  He also stated that there are many open fields within two miles of our field where people may take their park flyers and fly.  He also stated that this was a Saturday in December and during a warm summer Saturday there may be different readings.

Treasurer’s report -  Doug reported that he has opened the new bank account and will transfer the money from the old bank account.  He also stated that the balance is now growing as members have started paying their 2004 membership dues.

Buildings Competition — October thru March

Rick Hanners was presented the 2003 Dave Weber Special Service Award by Ron Swift, the previous winner, along with a certificate mounted in a frame.  The trophy was engraved with both winners’ names on the plate.  A new tradition has started where the present winner will pass the trophy to the new winner each year. Congratulations, Rick!

Bob Martin reported 18 entries in the builder competition and that members could still enter.  He also reported that the Puyallup Expo is Jan 31st and Feb 1st and he still needs members to help in manning the booth.

Rick Hanners reported no new activity with the pilot training and no sound readings.

Joe Goffin had brought in the new flight table that he and Randy Turner had built. They explained the features and costs involved.  Some time was then spent in discussing the table design and possible improvements.  A vote was made and passed to have a second table built.

Randy then presented a list of activities that the Field Improvement Committee would like to see accomplished this year.  They included:  safety fence replaced with new posts and railings; pilot stations established; moving the shed to allow a mower to go completely around it; addition / enclosure of the shed or replacement of the shed; potential club house; both American and Canadian Flags flying at events; runway repositioning;  moving the transmitter board.  These activities will be taken up at the next board meeting, and recommendations will then be made.

Randy Turner showed several items of interest, which included portable flight table, “U” tail-holder, and carrying carts to transport tools and equipment to the fight area.

Old Business- The By-law change regarding the order of business was presented, discussed, and voted on. The change was passed. This will now allow the meeting leader to decide the order in which the business will be presented.

There were several quarter scale models that filled the Library room. Dave Bell brought his piper cub that he is building in the competition. Dick Ovrid lead a very interesting discussion on model covering.

President Ron Swift closed the meeting at 9PM

Next month’s meeting will be February 3rd at 7PM at the Monroe Library.

The discussion will be on RC Gizmos and Gadgets.

Respectfully submitted Bob Martin Secretary 1/22/2004

Forget all that stuff about thrust and drag, lift and gravity; an airplane flies because of money.

A fool and his money are soon flying more airplane than he can handle.

Rule One: No matter what else happens, fly the airplane.
