Buzzard Droppings April 2004

(President’s Message  Continued from page 1)

the roadside and the improved look of the field.

We did order the new (to us) scanner. It should have arrived by the time you read this. We are drafting a proposal for its use and storage.

Last meeting, a proposal to limit membership to 60 until the club stabilizes with the larger membership was voted on and passed. As you know, the budget that was proposed last October and the subsequent vote on dues was based on a membership of 57. The word of the membership cap has spread quickly. I have received many calls from individuals interested in joining the Buzzards, even one youth, who I was working with nearly two years ago.

We may need to address the issue of the correct size for the cap on membership again, as the membership requests are received. Bob will be reporting the most current membership during our next meeting.

The support of our current membership as shown during the field improvement work party is amazing. Having 38 people helping out and others helping out with the mowing and other necessary work, shows that the club is healthy and well supported. Rick Hanners indicated that we could use some additional volunteer instructors to assist our new members with training, and check out flights. If you are interested, please contact Rick at 360 668-1312 or one of the club officers.

Our club program this month will cover Safety.

All members dues for 2004 should now be paid.  The charter for the AMA has been sent.  If you have not received your 2004 Buzzard Membership card you must have some details still out standing.  See Bob Martin to take care of them and get your card.  The gate combination has been changed.  Please safe guard it. It is the only security we have for our field.

Treasurer -  Doug reported that  the balance is growing as members are paying their 2004 membership dues.

Safety Director - Randy was not present, but it was mentioned that pets should be on a lash if you bring them to the field.  This is for the safety of your pet , the planes and for spectators.  Please do not let your pets run freely at the field.

(Secretary’s note, it is best to leave them safely at home.)

Bob Martin also reported that he had a discussion with the neighbor who was riding his motorcycle though our gate and onto the hay field.  He mentioned to the rider that we did not want to be blamed for the damage to the hay field since the wheel tracks clearly would show they went thought our gate.  Also, with him riding though the landing and take off path of our planes, an accident could very well happen.  We should not allow him to continue to use our gate to ride onto our landlord’s hay field.

While this might not be the most interesting topic in our hobby/sport, it is one that could save the flying field, save our models and protect those around us as we fly.  In order to qualify for the AMA Gold Leader Club status, a program needs to be presented each year. I think you will find the program this year to be fun, and we need your comments about the newly laid out field and suggestions you may have.

On the days I’ve been out flying, I notice that members are observing the field rule not to taxi in the pits. This single change alone will greatly benefit our club. I appreciate your efforts in helping out with “enforcing” the club field rules and AMA Safety rules with constructive, friendly conversations with those (even the old hats!) that might not know the rules.  These rules are posted on the club shed wall.  Should an issue arise that cannot be worked out by the members at the field, please call me or any of the other board members to assist.

Our club is based on camaraderie and advancing model aviation through safety and training. Our main goal is to have fun! Those are the values we need to keep and the legacy from the members who have already invested their time and energies to make the club what it is today. You are part of that legacy.

The Barnyard  Buzzards swap meet is coming up on May 15 from 10:00 AM—3:00 PM. If you would like to help out with the event, please contact any of the board members.

See you at the flying field…

Ron
