Buzzard Droppings April 2003

I just received a notice from AMA that confirms our club continuing in the Gold Leader Status. Congratulations to all who have helped make this happen! This is a good thing for the club as it indicates that we have met the requirements as a club that is contributing to our community and the hobby.

Many thanks for all of you who have volunteered to cut the grass on the runway this year. Of course, if the runway needs cutting, feel free to cut the grass. Just let the member who signed up for that week know that you cut it. The list of volunteers should be posted in the shed.

I want to thank Doug for getting the raffle items for the club meetings. We sometimes forget to do that, especially when he is always doing these things to help make our meetings a little more enjoyable. In case you haven’t been to a

Meeting Minutes March 2003 — Bob Martin

Text Box:  The meeting was called to order at the Monroe Library at 7:00 PM on March 4th 2003 by club president, Ron Swift.  Ron welcomed all present, and introduced the board members.  Sam Gibson was introduced as the club’s newest member.  Also added as a new member this month was Steve Bennett.  
The minutes of February 2003 were reviewed and approved.  
Ron then asked each member present to introduce themselves and give a brief description of their favorite plane(s).
Officer Reports:
Vice President Hap Shutz explained that he received an acceptance from the Text Box: Monroe High School Library for the club’s gift subscription of the monthly AMA magazine.  Ron Swift then announced that he can now submit the club’s application to AMA for our Gold Leader Club status.  Hap then announced that he was looking for volunteers to head up the club’s upcoming events.  Scott Curtis volunteered to head up the Combat event, and the club tentatively scheduled it for the Sunday after the Fun Fly on 7/29/03.  Scott then explained what happens at a combat event. News Bits:

·    Electric Flight is the program for this month.

·    Next month, we’ll have a presentation on gliders and launching.

·    Helicopter model flight at our field will be discussed at our meeting.

·    New version of the field rules will be available.

meeting, we usually have 4 winners of our raffle each month. The cost to enter the raffle is nothing—nada, zero! Just show up, with some luck, win a hat, glue, balancer, who knows!

Our program this month is electric flight. Advances in technology have really made this area very diverse and interesting.  Fred Guilfoyle volunteered to lead the presentation. Many thanks, Fred!

We don't have any restrictions about flying helicopters at our field by a club member  at this time, but I received some questions about this recently. We will have a discussion about planning a safe environment where both fixed wing and helicopters can fly at the same time.  I believe the answer is having a designated area away from the active runway for hovering, using the active runway for
