JoeGoffin_Early Joe and some of the 38 cub members and friends showed up at 7:00 AM to remove the existing safety fences and layout the orientation of the new ones.
Planning2 Stuff still on the truck. Plans for the day's activities are being made.
JoeGoffin_Early2 Joe and Randy brought much of the materials and the post hole digger. That made the job simple. Later, Fred brought the materials, etc. for the new storage shed.
JoeGoffin_Pads This is what the field looks like without any fences. Plenty early and lots of opportunity for everyone...
Bob_Posthole Bob can hardly wait to put the post hole digger to work. It sure made the job pretty painless compared to other methods.
Joe_Randy_Bob_Posthole Joe looks on as Randy and Bob move on to the second hole. It took more effort than many thought to use the "one man" post hole digger.
Postholes Ye Ha! It is a good thing there are at least 30 holes to dig. This machine was a brute to move. Heavy and needing some help to bore through the ground.
Randy_Posthole_Cleaning Randy demos the manual post hole digger. Notice the string on the ground that marks the new flight line.
Brian_Richardson Don't know how this got into our photos for the field, but here you can see Brian, our Vice President and the old sagging fence line.
Field_Work An early view of the new fence installation. The post holes for all the posts have been drilled.
Field_Work2 Some of the worker party helping to assemble the fences.
Roadwork_Posts Getting the vertical post ready involved adding the metal post holders.
Dave_BEll Dave taking a stroll to his truck, He provided the laser alignment tool we used to set the fence posts.
Discussions The weather cooperated the whole day. Joe was involved in many discussions about implementation details. Lots got done in a very little time.
Fence_Crew2 If this were a barge, we would be polling our way across the river. in this case, the loose dirt was being tamped down into the holes.
Fence_Crew3 The new fences are coming along nicely. Notice that the wind has picked up to about 15 MPH. No one flew that afternoon. the wind was rough and this turned out to be hard work!
Field_Work2_Fences2 This is the before look of the fence. Dave's laser helped to level the vertical posts. Notice the bare spots in the grass. These are where the old safety fence was.
Field_Work_Fences The fence line is looking pretty good. We still need to stretch the fishnet across the openings...
Fred_Rick_Shed Rick and Fred are clearing the way for the storage area work.
Jeremy_Steve_Joe_Pilot_Station Joe shows Steve and Jeremy what needs to be done for the pilot's pads.
Jeremy_Steve_Pilot_Station Steve and Jeremy set all four new pads,
Lunch_Crew The lunch was great and many complemented the chef. There was plenty for everyone!
Lunch2 The work crew having lunch together.
Lunch3 The tent was a nice touch.
Lunch Someone commented that it would be nice if we had this many people at our flying events. If Pat and Joe bring the food, I think everyone would come back.
Roadwork2 Dale, the landlord, commented that he liked the work that was done. He especially mentioned the roadwork. Nice job guys!
Roadwork Everyone helped out in their own way. There was a lot of work.
Shed_Crew Meanwhile, sometime earlier, the storage shed crew stripped the old lean-to and roofing materials from the existing structure.
Shed_Crew2 Has anyone seen my contact lens?
Shed1 The crane was for visual effect. Where do you want to put the shed? Luckily it was already in place, no moving required.
Shed_Crew3 Framing the new side of the storage shed.
Shed2 The new storage area takes shape.
Shed3 Looking good! Nearly complete.
Shed4 A view of the nice job of combining the old with the new side.
Shed_Rears2 Taking the old roof apart.
Shed_Rear The porta-potty has been move to its new location.
Fences_Completed This is what the flying field looks like today. What a great job, guys!
