Whether you are flying rubber band powered, CO2, wet, electric, or just arm power, modelers have a number of things that end up in a box (my first one was cardboard) and taken to the flight location. Over the years, this stuff accumulates. New tools and other items that are helpful for making repairs or even helping others are brought to the flying location every time.
Those who forget their stuff, often have a short flying day. That's why it is recommended to have a pack list, a preflight list, and a post flight list. Using these will prevent inconveniences like:
  • Forgotten wings
  • Leaving transmitters home
  • No fuel
  • No chargers
For those who are curious about what R/C modelers bring to the field as support for their planes, here's one list you can use (great Christmas shopping list for those new to R/C).
The Barnyard Buzzards will use this list for a field box competition. It goes like this...
Each pilot brings their field box. The contents are checked off against this list. The total weight of the flight box and all items is divided by the total number of items on the list. The winners are:
The 3 pilots with the highest ratio...
The 3 pilots with the lowest ratio...
A special "Jack Armstrong" award is given to the pilot with the heaviest flight box (provided one person can lift the stuff!)
This is all in fun and helps our pilots share ideas of useful things to make flying more convenient.

You most likely heard about our Field Box competition at our last meeting. Even in the heavy rain, we managed to run a very tight competition and the results are simply amazing! We have two categories, high ratio and low ratio and one special award, the Jack Armstrong Award, which was won by Randy Turner in 2005 for his 80 lb entry!
In the Low ratio, 1st Place Ron Swift
2nd Place Randy Turner

High Ratio category: 1st Place Chet Blake
2nd Place Fred Hanquet
Congratulations to all who participated!
