This is a Big Hots being readied for the flying season. The engine is a Tartan Super Twin Glow. It has become gummed up (from the caster oil in the fuel). The engine is being freed up with after run oil (automatic transmission oil). Notice the plug and velocity stack are plugged to prevent foreign "stuff" from getting into the engine.

Tartan_Twin_Glow : While going through the plane, the following problems were fixed :
  • Throttle servo was replaced - it was gummed up with oil
  • Onboard glow system was added
  • Unplugged crankcase tap is now used for fuel tank pressure (it caused the servo failure)
  • Electrical connectors cleaned up - servos had major jitter
  • APC propeller baldes were replaced and balanced
  • CG and lateral balance were verified
  • Servo throws and rates (3 each rudder, aileron, and elevator on the JR PCM10s)
  • Fuel tank seal was checked
Fuel_Tank This is a continuation of the Air Master 40T. The push wires for the throttle and steerable nose wheel can be seen. The tank was assembled with a heavier clunk, larger diameter flex tubing, and sealed with silicon sealer.
Tail_linkage The push rods for the rudder and elevator wer upgraded using Central Hobbies carbon fiber push rods and titanium rod ends. These are very light weight and strong. Goldberg clevises with the clips were used to connect the control horns to the servo arms.
